Hi Mark!

Hi Mark! Welcome to moderation. This is my first time in these discussion boards. We are using lots of Web 2.0 stuff in assignments here at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix. We also have an event next week that will bring more than 200 girls to campus for hands-on activities that will engage them in STEM. The best part is, the activities are developed and hosted by our current students, so it is a win-win. Check out our website for more info: http://www.xcp.org/Girls_Have_IT_Day/home.html

We put this together with no funding. (We were fortunate a generous donor put up some money so each guest will leave with a tote bag.) If you (or anyone) has suggestions about possible grant opportunities for next year, please share.

I look forward to reading your insights and tips on using Web 2.0 with students. These tools are real winners for schools because they are usually free and naturally lend themselves to students mastering 21st century skills.

Hi Mark,
I teach high school Digital Design plus Introduction to Informational Technology. I've just finished a project with my upper level students that will be used as a "selling tool" for all the vocational programs in our school. I had the students interview the program teachers, take pictures of their classes, write the text and put it all together in a PowerPoint presentation for the guidance department to take with them and show as they sign up students for next year. Not only will this give the guidance counselors a better understanding of what we do, but it will inform the incoming freshman about what vocational programs are available to them. Now that the project is complete, I will have the same students put that information into a Flash web site to be linked to the schools web site.
Oh technology....isn't great! Now, how do I get around the blocks for using Web 2.o in my classroom.

Hi and welcome to the Teacher Experience Exchange. Catherine...wow!...cool site. You are doing a great job! I look forward to you sharing your expertise.

Dmbdolan...thanks for introducing yourself. Wow...a Flash website! I would love to see that when finished. I too struggle with Web 2.0 sites being blocked. Try to make your case and get specific sites unblocked.

Cheers,
Mark
