We start off the year with games and songs. We start with a steady beat and may use accompaniment. We can also have each student rhythmically recite their name and we repeat it. We get the students moving and singing and then we will have a mystery song to let them compare to the songs we have been singing. I try to show them patterns in music and lots of times I am explaining about math, science and history and language all are part of the musical experience. I tell them about sound waves and vibrations and how we need to use our hearing to listen to music. How are hearts beat a steady beat can you feel it. Music has a steady beat. We discuss where a song comes from and does it sound like it comes from china. What type of music soft or loud? All of this can be done and enhanced. I also make sure I use as many learning styles as possible. They love music.
