Discussion FAQs

How do discussion forums work?

The Teacher Experience Exchange provides you with a discussion forum where you can discuss general topics or more specific topics if you choose. These discussions allow you to interact with a moderator and other students on the site.

How do I find discussion forums?

To access the discussions forums:

  1. Click Discussions in the right navigation.
  2. Search the forums to see if someone has already posted a question similar to yours or on a topic you're interested in.
  3. If not, click Post new topic to ask your question.
  4. Simply fill in the appropriate fields and attach a file if you'd like.
  5. Click Preview to preview your post.
  6. Once you're satisfied with your post, click Post.

How do I read my messages? How do I reply?

To read a particular message, click the message topic. A new page opens that shows the full text of the message, as well as all related replies. From this screen, you can either write a reply, return to the main discussions area or view previous or next topics.

To reply to a message:

  1. Enter text in the Message text box at the bottom of the page.
  2. Once you have completed your message, click Preview to review your message before posting.
  3. If your message looks correct, click Post. To cancel your reply, click Cancel.

How do I post a new question to a discussion forum?

  1. To post a question to the board, click Post new topic.
  2. Type a subject, pick your forum and then type your message.
  3. Once you have completed your message, click Preview to review your message before posting.
  4. If your message looks correct, click Post. To cancel your message, click Cancel.

“How did I get the user name that shows up when I post a message?

The name that appears when you post a message is called your User name. By default, your User name is the first letter of your first name followed by your last name (as entered when you registered). You may change your user name at any time. To do so:

  1. Click My profile in the right navigation.
  2. On the Profile tab, click Edit your personal profile.
  3. Make all your necessary changes and then click Save.

How long will it take for the moderator to answer my question?

Our moderators review the discussion forums at least every other day, so you should receive a response within that timeframe after posting your question. However, if other students have already answered your question correctly, the moderator may not provide an additional response to the duplicate question.

How will I know when someone has responded to my question?

When someone responds to your message, a red dot will appear next to your topic on the Discussions forum page. Click the topic to review the full text of your original message and the response.

How do I tag a post on the discussion forums?

You can tag posts as Innovative, Valuable or Tech savvy on the discussion forums. Simply click Innovative, Valuable or Tech savvy at the bottom of each post to share what you thought of the post. Tagging posts lets you express your opinion as well as help others who may be browsing the forum for the first time.

What are the user badges associated with my user name?

User badges are applied to your profile automatically as other users on the site rate your discussion forum posts. If other users find your posts innovative, valuable or tech savvy, those attributes are associated with your user name and appear on your public profile.
